Integrity and Experience 

Marine Directors are prominent leaders and residents of Vero Beach.  The bankers of Marine Bank & Trust have the highest integrity and are inherently compelled to be very responsive to customer requests. Marine's management team possess many years of diversified banking experience with a solid and proven track record.

Board of Directors

		Douglas E. Hazel Chairman of the Board Mr. Hazel brings over 23 years of banking experience as a shareholder and director of three banks.  Mr. Hazel is president of Hazel Investments, L.P., which is active in developing commercial and residential real estate in Florida, Missouri and Minnesota.  Other business interests are Maine Pointe, a large business consulting firm specializing in lean manufacturing, procurement and logistics.
		William J. Penney President & CEO, Director Mr. Penney has been a commercial banker for over 32 years.  He is a native Floridian and a 26-year resident of Vero Beach.  He has served as chief lending officer in four different banking institutions over the past 22 years.  His specialty is providing commercial banking services to business owners and real estate developers and assisting them in growing their businesses profitably.  During his career he has developed talented and successful bankers.  Mr. Penney was the Executive Vice President and Chief Lending Officer at Marine Bank & Trust Company since March 2004. In February 2010 Mr. Penney was promoted to President and Chief Executive Officer to replace the retiring C. Andrew Lawrence.  Mr. Penney is actively involved on several community boards including the United Way of Indian River County, the YMCA of the Treasure Coast, the Indian River County Economic Development Council and the Indian River County Chamber of Commerce.
		Donald L. Ames, M.D. Director Dr. Ames’ illustrious medical career spans four decades.  He is founder and managing partner of the doctor’s offices formerly known as Indian River Medical Center and was a medical consultant for over 39 years for the Los Angeles Dodgers. He served several years on the Board of Directors of Indian River Memorial Hospital and was the board’s representative to the hospital finance committee.  He was the first surgeon in Florida to perform arthroscopic surgery and is a significant contributor to the local community.
		Wilton R. (Rusty) Banack Director Mr. Banack is a lifetime resident of Vero Beach.  He is a graduate of Vero Beach High School and Florida Southern College.  He is president of Quality Caretaking of Indian River, Inc. and owner/VP of Quality Fruit Packers of Indian River, Inc.  He is a member of the Florida Southern College Citrus and Horticultural Planning Advisory Committee and serves as co-chair of the United Way Agribusiness Division and alternate director of the Indian River Citrus League.
		William H. Chadwick Director Mr. Chadwick retired from a career in commercial banking, most recently as president and chief executive officer of Banknorth Group, Inc. (Vermont), a $4 billion multi-bank holding company with community banks in Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and New York.  He previously served three years as a director of the Boston, Massachusetts Federal Reserve Bank.  He currently serves as elected trustee of the Indian River County Hospital District.  Mr. Chadwick is a graduate of Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island.
		David S. Croom Director Mr. Croom has been in the construction industry for over 38 years and is the president of Croom Construction Company of Vero Beach, which was founded in 1978.  He has served as chairman of the Board of Trustees of St. Edwards School, chairman of the Vero Beach Planning and Zoning Board, president of the Kiwanis Club of Vero Beach and president of the 100 Club of Vero Beach.  He was re-elected in 2006 to serve on the Board of Trustees of St. Edwards School and currently serves as Vice-Chairman of the Board.  Mr. Croom received a degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Georgia and an MBA from the University of Miami.
		Kevin J. Given Director Mr. Given brings over 21 years of experience in the luxury resort and private club/real estate development management.  He is a partner in the Quail Valley Golf & River Clubs and serves as the Chief Operating Officer.  He is also a general partner in several real estate holdings and developments including Med Express Urgent Care based in Morgantown, West Virginia – currently, the largest Urgent Care operator in the country.  He is a graduate of Concord University in Athens, West Virginia with a major in Hotel Management and Minor in Business Administration.
		Charles H. Gould Director Mr. Gould is a lifetime Vero Beach resident and CPA with over 24 years of professional experience.  He graduated from Vero Beach High School and Stetson University and is founder of his own firm, Gould & Associates, P.A.
		Kirk W. Koehler Director Mr. Koehler brings over 26 years of commercial and residential real estate experience, including developing Citrus Medical Plaza, North River Medical building, The Atrium, and Bent Pine community.
		G. Russell Petersen Director Beginning as an engineer for NASA during the Apollo program, Mr. Petersen has over 37 years of experience as a trial attorney while operating his own Vero Beach law firm, G. Russell Petersen, P.A.  He is a member of Federal and Supreme Court trial bars and appeals courts and has represented several school boards..
		George R. Slater Founder & Director Mr. Slater brings 50 years of banking experience, including serving as chairman, president and CEO of Wisconsin’s $5 billion Marine Corporation and later as vice chairman and director of Bank One Corporation, now JP Morgan Chase.  More recently, he founded Marine Bank & Trust Company and served as its first Chairman/CEO from 1997 through 2002.  Prior to becoming a banker in 1960, Mr. Slater was an instructor of economics at Purdue University where he earned his doctorate.  He was an artillery officer during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre and Japanese occupation.

William J. Penney

President & Chief Executive Officer

Brian C. Fowler

Executive Vice President & Chief Lending Officer
As Executive Vice President and Chief Lending Officer, Mr. Fowler’s primary duty is overseeing all the lending functions of the bank. An area native, Mr. Fowler was born in Fort Pierce, and his family owned a Vero Beach-based business for more than 20 years. He is a graduate of the University of Central Florida with a degree in Finance. Prior to joining Marine Bank & Trust Company in November 2009 as Chief Credit Officer, Mr. Fowler held various officer positions at another community-based bank previously known as Indian River National Bank, providing him with experience in both the commercial loan origination and credit underwriting fields.

Steven C. Shackley

Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer & Chief Operations Officer
Mr. Shackley began his banking career in 1967 at Citizens Bank of Palm Beach County, Florida.  He later moved into the operations and finance department of First American Bank of Indian River County, serving for eight years as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.  After First American was sold to SouthTrust Corporation in 1998, Mr. Shackley continued with the company as the Bank's branch financial officer and coordinator for a multi-county area.   He joined the Marine in June 2003 as the bank’s Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer & Chief Operations Officer.

Mary A. Cone

Vice President, Mortgages
Mrs. Cone is a native of Florida and a graduate of the American Institute of Banking and the Bert Rodger School of Real Estate.  Mrs. Cone has been in banking since 1968 and has been a resident of Vero Beach since 1981.  Prior to coming to the Marine in June 1997 as a Private Banker, Mrs. Cone held various officer positions at PNC Bank, Harbor Federal Savings Bank and American Savings and Loan Association, all located in Vero Beach.  She formerly held the position of Branch Manager at the Marine and is currently the Vice President, Mortgage Banking.

Denise V. Finizio

Vice President and Branch Manager 
Mrs. Finizio has over 14 years of banking experience spanning Florida and Arizona. Her background includes sales, customer service, residential and commercial lending, and branch management. She joined Marine Bank in January 2007 as Vice President Branch Manager of the mainland location. Her duties include branch operations, residential and commercial lending and business development. Mrs. Finizio is an active volunteer and participant in numerous non-profit organizations in Indian River County.

David A. Hooper

Vice President, Commercial Loans
Mr. Hooper brings with him over 25 years in the banking industry in Indian River County, having served as a Vice President and Commercial Lender.  He is a graduate of the Florida School of Banking and a graduate of West Virginia University with a degree in Business Administration.  Mr. Hooper is an active member of the Exchange Club and serves on the Business & Education, Economic Development, and Industry Appreciation Committees for the Indian River County Chamber of Commerce.  At Marine Bank, he will work directly with business owners to provide customized financing for their businesses. 

Georgia L. Irish

Vice President and Branch Manager
Mrs. Irish has over 20 years in the banking industry, with 15 of those years as an Officer and Assistant Manager for First National Bank of Pa. She moved to Indian River County in 2003 from Erie, Pennsylvania and was the Assistant Vice President/Branch Manager of a local beachside bank before joining Marine Bank & Trust Company in January 2007. Mrs. Irish serves as Vice President and Branch Manager of the beachside main office, overseeing branch operations, account servicing, and business development.

Kristine M. Martin

Assistant Cashier
Mrs. Martin began her banking career in 1990 as a Teller and Assistant Head Teller for a local bank. In 1992 she transferred to another local bank where she held the positions of Bookkeeper, Head Teller and Loan Processor. She left the banking industry altogether to work as a Bookkeeper for private firms in 2001, and in January 2003, she joined Marine Bank & Trust Company as a Loan Processor. She was promoted to Operations Processor in January 2005 and then to an Operations Assistant in September 2006. She was again promoted in December 2008 to the position of Assistant Cashier, where she assists the bank's Cashier with various aspects of secrecy, security and compliance.

Deric R. Meadows

Assistant Vice President/Information Technology
Mr. Meadows began his banking career as a Teller at Wells Fargo in Colorado in 2003.  He relocated to Vero Beach and joined Marine Bank & Trust Company as a Teller in August 2004, bringing with him a natural talent in the area of technology.  In March 2005 he assumed the newly-created role of Information Technology Support Tech and was promoted to Network Administrator in June 2006.  In December 2007 he was made an officer of the bank, becoming the Assistant Vice President of Information Technology. 

Linda L. Sherman

Vice President/Cashier
Mrs. Sherman has over 25 years of banking experience spanning New York, Virginia and Florida.  Her background in banking includes the areas of sales, customer service, consumer and residential lending, operations and branch management. She has completed numerous courses offered by the American Institute of Banking as well as local college courses in banking and accounting. She came to the Marine in April 1999 as Operations Administration and was promoted to Operations Supervisor in May 2002 and Operations Manager later that year.  She assumed the role of Security Officer in August 2003 and became Cashier in December 2003. In September 2006 she was promoted to Vice President and in addition, assumed the duties of BSA and Compliance Officer. 

Karl L. Williams

Vice President, SBA & Commercial Loans
Mr. Williams has more than 25 years experience in banking.  He started his career in Erie, Pennsylvania and moved to Florida in 1995.  His primary focus since 1987 has been commercial and SBA lending.  He is a graduate of Gannon University with a Bachelor's Degree in Business and a MBA in Finance.  He is also a graduate of the Central Atlantic School of Commercial Lending.  Mr. Williams has been active in commercial and SBA lending for 10 years on the Treasure Coast.  He joined Marine Bank in May of 2007 as Vice President, Small Business Administration (SBA) and Commercial Loans.
